Universities Now Accepting Community College Credits For Online Degree Programs

The number of students who enroll in online college courses has grown over 800% in the last 9 years. Not surprisingly, online enrollment in college degree programs rose by over one million students in 2010 – and that number is expected to continue to rise.

Online education, sometimes referred to as distance learning, provides a chance for non-traditional students – such as those who must raise children or work a full-time job – to further their education on a convenient and usually flexible schedule. Those who succeed will earn a degree or certificate and give themselves a chance to find a better paying job or to receive a promotion within their current company.

Until now, if a student held an associate’s degree from a community college, they would have to seek their bachelor’s degree from schools like Kaplan, Phoenix or ITT Tech. While these schools are accredited and will provide a quality education, a lot of students believe that they will gain more prestige and possibly land better positions if they earn their degree from traditional 4 year universities, i.e. Harvard, Stanford or University of “insert your State here”.

In an endeavor to help these non-traditional students earn their bachelor’s degrees online, community colleges across America are initiating credit transfer agreements with the larger universities. This allows holders of associate’s degrees to transfer their credits to a quality online four year degree program at an accredited, well-respected university.

And if traditional, “big name” universities are not your style, there’s no need to lose sleep over it. Technical colleges across the country are now giving their students the opportunity to earn a four year degree online as well. So the opportunities are there. In fact, they’re plentiful.

If you have been thinking about getting your four year degree online, the ball is now in your court and it’s up to you to seek out and find the four year online school that is best for you. Take your time and do your due diligence. Remember that there are a lot of websites out there that will trick you out of your personal information and give you nothing in return.

College and University Competition

Today’s competition is growing rapidly for attending the prestigious universities of America. There are over 2.5 million students applying to colleges and universities each and every year. This number is expected to rise, as young adults in their 20s and 30s are going back to college more and more each year. There are around 20 to 25,000 valedictorians chosen by high schools each year. That number alone is enough to fill over 10 Ivy League colleges.

If you are serious about attending a procedures University, you will want to start learning the requirements as early as ninth-grade, possibly even earlier if you can. They are directories that can tell you all the information you need to know about different colleges all over the United States. Some information you will need to consider is the location, admission requirements, majors offered, the cost of tuition, and the amount of students that are accepted compared to those that have applied. This will give you a realistic approach to what you need to do to prepare for college.

Some of the top colleges and Ivy League schools around the United States are Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Brown, Columbia, MIT, Washington and Lee, and Cornell University. Harvard has an estimated 17 to 20,000 applicants per year, with only around 2100 accepted. This puts your chance at getting into Harvard around one out of nine. This is not a very high number, which is why you should choose a handful of universities or Ivy League schools that you want to attend.

Princeton has an estimated 15,000 students applying each year, with around 2000 accept it. This give you around day 14 to 15% chance of getting admitted to this school. Stanford has an estimated 16,000 students that apply each year, with an acceptance of around 2900. This gives you a one in five chance of getting admitted. Many of the students that are applying to top universities around the United States have very good applications and resumes, but still get turned down. This is why you must make sure you have at least 5 to 10 colleges and universities on your list to apply to. Do not get discouraged if you do not get admitted to the school of your choice. There are many great universities out there to attend and if you work hard in high school, you will get in to a good school.

College and University Search Options

If you are conducting a College and University search there are some things you may want to consider before you make your final decision. First of all you want to make sure that you are aware of what your availability situation is going to be. If you have a full time job that runs nine to five you need to make sure the school you are looking at offers a good selection of night classes and even some classes on the weekend. If that doesn’t work for you a school that has a great online program may be the best thing for you. Today an online University degree is actually well accepted unlike a few years ago when it was considered a lesser degree. The world has changed and people realize they can do twice the amount of work online as it would take them to do in person. Between getting of work, running errands, and getting to school on time and finding the time to study, people cannot juggle it all. However, by having your classes online you can work on your schedule and still get everything done. It makes life a lot easier and has increased the enrollment numbers of colleges everywhere over the past five years.

People understand how important it is to go to school and that’s why they conduct a College and University search. They want a degree that will allow them to get a better job so they can make more money. The problem is that they will be unable to fit normal in house classes into their usual schedules. Once there were legitimate online University degree programs available that also came with financial aid and student loan options the enrollment numbers sky rocketed. Many of the new jobs created once the economy improves will require a college degree. That’s why the time to act is now with getting back into school and getting your degree so that you are able to get the job you want. You do not want to miss out on the career you want because you do not have the education credentials needed. Times are tough but there are financial options available that will help you pay for school. These options can make the difference for you if you are willing to learn more about them because they can make college very affordable. So with payment options, online classes, and flexible programs in place there really is no excuse for you not to be in school.
